SAFETY IN DESIGN

The concept of Safety in Design methodology considers how to eliminate, isolate or minimize the risks of death, injury and ill health (to as low as reasonably practicable) to those who construct, operate, maintain, decommission or demolish an asset. It avails the opportunity to proactively reduce the health and safety risk to personnel during the life of an asset, understanding the environment, identifying stakeholders and planning safety in design procedure.

CELEBRATING BUISNESS MANAGEMENT EXCELLENCE – ZOHO NORMINATES SCSP AS BRAND PARTNER FOR

Every good company wants to provide excellent service and balance business needs and goals. As such excellence and professionalism is hard work. On that wise, some days are rewarding an energizing, others are challenging making it difficult to keep up the standard. Therefore, Safety Consultants and Solution Provider (SCSP) mandate of compliance is embedded on the understanding that the world is moved not only by the mighty shoves of the heroes but also by the aggregate of the tiny pushes of each honest worker.

ENERGY-SAVING ALTERNATIVES FOR CLEAN AGENT FIRE SUPPRESSION SYSTEMS

Energy conservation is very paramount in all technological systems and solutions. Energy costs can consume large budgetary costs over the lifecycle of products, and contribute significantly to carbon emissions. This reminds us that energy considerations are important in the design, execution, and use of products. Energy efficiency is possible with technological solutions like clean agent fire suppression systems.

FEMALE LEADERS IN SAFETY RISK MANAGEMENT

Ironically, there is a growing perception that the safety sector is an “old boys club” made up middle-aged men adorned in high visible jackets, wielding a clipboard and prohibiting workers with the “do’s and don’ts” in a commanding fashion. This translates to the difficult and unpalatable terrain a woman must cope and survive in and convincingly win the hearts of men that she can equally fit in. This conundrum continues to play in almost all other spheres of life but is more severe in the safety profession.

AVIATION SAFETY COMPLIANCE

A source from Aviation Safety Networks – recorded aviation accidents from 1942 to 2021 with airliner accidents ranging from 8 to 99, and fatalities range from 59 to 2389. Corp jet accidents ranging from zero to 13 and fatalities ranging from zero to 78 were recorded. Hijacking accidents ranging from zero to 86 and fatalities ranging from zero to 268 were recorded. These statistics clearly show that the magnitude of loss of life and asset were significant, and are evident that the aviation safety is a high hazard or high-risk level if not properly managed to reduce risk to As-Low-As-Reasonably Practicable (ALARP). Safety Experts are thus required to carry out safety studies and reviews for both life and fire safety, technical and process safety, and environmental safety at conception, design, procurement, installation, and maintenance stages of aviation assets. We focus more on the life and fire safety compliance aspects as they apply to the aviation sector in this context. A structured framework consisting of sets of processes, and tools for management of safety systems and programs are inevitable for aviation industry.

INCREASING SPATE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE AN SCSP APPRAISAL

Bangladesh has a history of industrial disasters as past industrial tragedies were attributed to safety lapses.  Between 2004 and 2020, about 2,308 people died of fire incidents. Last year, fire engulfed a food and drink factory killing about 52 people. In February 2019, a blaze ripped through a 400 old area cramped with apartment shops and warehouse in the oldest part of Dhaka and killed at least 67 people.  In 2012, about 117 workers died when they were trapped behind locked exits in a garment factory in Dhaka.  The country’s worst industrial disaster occurred the following year when the Rana Plaza garment collapsed killing more than 1,100 people. In 2010, another fire occurred in Dhaka in a house illegally storing chemicals, killing at least 123 people. The varying disturbing tragedies underscore the importance and urgent implementation of effective industrial and personal safety framework and vigilant enforcement.

CARBON AUDIT AS A CATALYST FOR SUSTAINABILITY

CARBON AUDIT is often interrelated to ENERGY AUDIT, why? It is because carbon emission is a product of energy consumption. Various sources of energy have some level of contribution to atmospheric greenhouse gases which are mainly Carbon Dioxide (CO2), Nitrous oxide (N2O) and Methane (NH4) as these gasses accumulates in the atmosphere to form a shiel of gasses called Greenhouse Gases (GHGs).
