MARINE SAFETY AND DIVING EQUIPMENT

MARINE SAFETY AND DIVING EQUIPMENT

Marine safety and diving equipment consists of items whether equipment, devices, kits, and gadgets safeguarding life while carrying out aquatic activities whether underwater engineering projects, marine mineral explorations, underwater scientific explorations, marine transportation, or aquatic sports.

Marine safety and diving equipment, kits are categorized as – head protection, face and eye protection, respiratory protection, body protection, ear protection, protect against drowning, protection against hypothermia, diving protection, sailing protection, and emergency response protection.

Underwater sports and rescue include – swimming, diving, synchronized diving, snorkeling, scuba diving, sailing, yachting, kayaking, canoeing, stand paddling, water rafting, rowing, wake boarding, body boarding, kite surfacing, wind surfing, water skiing, canyoning, under water hockey, underwater rugby, and other aquatics.

Underwater operations include – underwater welding, underwater engineering construction, marine mineral explorations, hydrographic surveying, oceanographic explorations, coast guarding, fishing, underwater photography, maritime transportation, cargo shipping, dredging and other offshore activities.

MARINE SAFETY AND DIVING EQUIPMENT CATEGORIES INCLUDE:

  • Head protection – Diving helmets, bump caps, hair protection. These are for protection the head and scalp from any form of harm during marine operations and activities.
  • Hearing protection – Earmuffs, earplugs. The hearing sense is secure due to protection of the ear drum from vibrations, water penetration and entrance of marine anemones.
  • Face and eye protection – Goggles and spectacles, facial shields, and full-face mask. The vision is clear and safe due to protection from danger.
  • Respiratory protective equipment – Dust masks, respirators, breathing apparatus, and tank. Flow of water into the nostrils and windpipe could suffocate humans without the aid of face covering and breathing apparatus.
  • Hand and foot protection – Gloves, safety boots and shoes. Hand and foot are protected against injury, chemical or oil spills in marine bodies, and helps in movement by divers, marine sportsmen and marine workers.
  • Body protection – Safety suits, wetsuit, safety belts, aprons, and high-visibility clothing. The body is secured against injury and aiding in maneuvering.
  • Ear protection – Ear muff and ear plug.
  • Protection against drowning – Life raft, kayak, lifebuoys, life jacket and vest. Some inflatable or air retaining PFDs helps in floating and life sustained pending any rescue operations during marine operations, sports, and exposure hazards.
  • Protection against hypothermia – Immersion suits and anti-exposure suits. Ant-hypothermal clothing helps individual who are exposed to cold water bodies.
  • Diving protection – Diving cylinder, diving regulator, wetsuits, scuba masks, snorkels, fins, dive panel, safety harness, diving rope, dive computers and gear bags. All that is needed to navigate in the water during diving activities are inevitable according to International Maritime Organization (IMO), Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA), and other marine safety regulating standards.
  • Sailing protection – Wave monitoring device, rescue boat, safety harness, tether, Jackline, tide gauge, drop camera, depth sensor, echo sounder, sound velocity sensor, global positioning system, and winches.
  • Emergency response – Emergency whistle, safety torch, morse signal torch, horn, hazard identification signs, like – deep water, no jumping for diving – shallow water, underwater obstacles, swimming area, cold water – do not swim etc.

Marine and diving protection equipment is regulated by ISO 20141 Personal Safety – Personal Protective Equipment for personal protective equipment, ISO 10333, Personal Fall-Arrest Systems for protection against fall, International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) for marine safety, and ISO 24802-2 or ISO 13289: 2011 – Recreational Diving Services.

Diving and marine protection equipment consists of items whether equipment, devices, kits, and gadgets safeguarding life while carrying out aquatic activities whether underwater engineering projects, marine mineral explorations, underwater scientific explorations, marine transportation, or aquatic sports.
